Monday, the 11th of September 2017 – go shorty, it’s my birthday.
The perfect day to finally dedicate a post to one of my favorite songs off all time: Forever Young.
Released in 1985 by, German (which I never knew) band Alphaville, this song is nostalgia all over the place. Every time I hear it, I want to shut the lights down and be quiet for a bit. It always takes me back to a square in my hometown, Schiedam. I don’t know why I don’t like Mondaysss, but I guess it has something to do with the fact that I heard Forever Young when I was about 12 years old. I think it’s a beautiful memory and I’m grateful for the fact that my memory works this way. Awesome that I still remember things through songs.
In the year ’86, ’86
I turned 31 today, can you believe it? I know I can’t, but it’s true and I feel good about it. I still remember last year, my 30th birthday which caused quit the stir. Well, I just made a huge deal about it. I felt confused, weird and most of all: a few weeks before I wanted to hit the brakes on my life or something. I felt like there was so much that I still needed to do before I turned 30. The big 3-0 is SUCH a thing, or at least, we make it out to be SUCH a thing. Age ain’t nothing but a number.
For some reason, 31 sound better to me.
So many adventures could happen today, so many songs we’ve forgot to play.
So many dreams swinging out of the blue, we will let them come through.
It still think it’s hilarious that Alphaville is German. I only found out last year, during a heavy after-office hours music-session at my former company. The friend that I was with is German, so he was actually surprised by the fact that I, as the huge 80s fan that I am, wasn’t aware of this little fact. Well, no, I never heard an accent so no, I had no idea.
Little that I know that this German band is also responsible for my previously mentioned favorite Big in Japan with the best lyric ever
“things will happen while they can”.
